The iPhone XS that Apple’s about to release might be more expensive than we thought

For as much as Apple tries to keep important details about its next-gen iPhone lineup under wraps, the leaks have not slowed down in the slightest over the past few years. If anything, the leaks, despite Apple’s best efforts, have only increased. Last year for example, a rogue Apple employee released an iOS 11 GM which, among other things, confirmed the launch of the iPhone X and an LTE-enabled Apple Watch.
This year, key details regarding Apple’s upcoming iPhone have leaked yet again with the release of a marketing image of a revamped iPhone X alongside a larger iPhone X model. What’s more, we’ve since learned that the next-gen iPhone X will be dubbed the iPhone XS, while the gargantuan 6.5-inch iPhone will be dubbed the iPhone XS Max. What remains unclear, though, is how Apple plans to price the trio of iPhones it will unveil next Wednesday.
According to some rumors we’ve seen, Apple’s 2018 iPhone pricing matrix will align closely with what we saw last year. Specifically, the 6.1-inch iPhone will reportedly be priced at $699, the 5.8-inch iPhone XS at $799, and the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max at $999. Those are certainly attractive price points, but there is also speculation that iPhone pricing this year will be higher than many are anticipating.
To this point, a new research note from Bank of America Merrill Lynch (via CNBC) relays that the 6.1-inch iPhone variant might be priced at $799, with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max priced at $999 and $1,049, respectively.
“iPhone pricing is likely higher than embedded in consensus” Bank of America analyst Wamsi Mohan writes. “Although investor expectations are for some moderation in pricing for 2019 models, we expect Apple to continue to price the iPhones for value, which should drive upside to consensus estimates.”
While it would be nice if Apple prices its 2018 iPhone lineup aggressively, Apple has never been shy about placing a premium price tag on its products. Indeed, the success Apple saw with the iPhone X certainly demonstrates that consumers have no problem spending upwards of $1,000 to get the latest and greatest mobile technologies Apple has to offer. Truth be told, as long as Apple’s 6.1-inch LCD model is somewhat affordable, it won’t really matter how pricey its iPhone XS models are.

New 6.5-inch iPhone X model reportedly called the ‘iPhone XS Max’

It’s been rumored for a while that Apple would be releasing two new OLED iPhone successors to the iPhone X this year — an upgraded 5.8-inch model, said to be called the iPhone XS, and a larger 6.5-inch version that is reportedly going to be called the “iPhone XS Max,” according to multiple sources speaking to 9to5Mac.
It’s a break from Apple’s usual naming conventions that it had introduced back in 2014 with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Many had expected that Apple would continue that practice with the iPhone XS and name the larger version the iPhone XS Plus, but it seems that that’s no longer the case.
In addition to the new moniker and larger size, the iPhone XS Max is expected to offer an even bigger battery than the smaller XS. Both phones will also reportedly see an internal spec boost over the current iPhone X, with a new A12 processor and 4GB of RAM.
Whatever the name may be, we’ll find out for sure when Apple officially announces things at its event on September 12th.

Logitech Powered Wireless Charging Stand for iPhone 8 & X is co-designed by Apple

Logitech has launched the Powered Wireless Charging Stand, an accessory built for the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X, with the unique bulletpoint of being designed "in collaboration" with Apple. [Updated with price correction by Logitech]
It's not clear what Apple's design contributions were, but the Powered sports a U-shaped cradle, unlike the open designs of many similar products. This should keep an iPhone "snug and comfortable," according to Logitech, and it's not immediately clear if the stand will be able to fit Apple's rumored 6.1- and 6.5-inch iPhones coming this fall alongside an updated 5.8-inch model.
If nothing else they should be able to handle the new iPhones in a less secure landscape mode, where the U shape serves as two-point support.
The accessory will charge both Apple and non-Apple Qi wireless devices, but the latter only at 5 watts, whereas iPhones get access to faster 7.5-watt technology.
Logitech is currently taking preorders for the Powered at a cost of $69.99 with free shipping, and it should also be making an appearance at Apple retail. No firm ship date has been set.
Update: PR for Logitech says that the original $79.99 pricetag was a mistake, and in reality the stand costs $69.99.
