The Motorola Razr 2019 concept has just surfaced on YouTube, and it actually looks quite sleek. The design shown in this YouTube video is actually inspired by Motorola’s patent sketches which surfaced a while back, and quite possibly even some concept images that appeared recently. This video has a duration of almost four minutes, and it shows off the device from pretty much all sides.
If you take a look at the device, you will see a phone which basically looks quite similar to the original Motorola Razr, save for the fact it’s larger. The phone has one large display on the inside, and when folded, a much smaller display on the outside activates. The original Motorola Razr also had two displays, though both of them were much smaller than the ones on this concept phone.
A single camera is included on this phone, and it acts as both the phone’s front-facing and rear-facing camera, depending on if it’s folded or not. A fingerprint scanner sits on the back of the device, and doubles as a Motorola logo, actually. A 3.5mm headphone jack can be found on the bottom of the device, along with a Type-C USB port, and a loudspeaker. All the physical keys are located on the right-hand side of this phone, and when unfolded, the device has a rather large chin on the bottom, same as the original unit.
The device is actually shown in several color variants in the provided video, and you will also get a good look at the hinge which the designer envisioned. If Motorola ends up creating this device based on the concept images that surfaced, it could resemble this concept design, quite a bit, actually.
What We Know About The Device Thus Far
A report which surfaced a while back suggested that Motorola is planning to return the Razr brand to the big stage, and the report was quite credible, actually. That report also said that this will be the company’s foldable device, and that it will be quite expensive, the device is actually said to cost around $1,500.
The phone appeared in patent sketches before that report even came to light, and as already mentioned, those sketches are extremely similar to this concept device, so it’s clearly inspired by them. This may become one of the most unique foldable smartphones if Motorola ever decides to pull the trigger and makes it a reality.
No specifications leaked just yet, but it’s safe to assume that the phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor by Qualcomm. The device will also include at least 6GB of RAM, while we still do not know how large will its main or secondary displays be.
The Competition
Motorola will have plenty of competition in the foldable smartphones department, as Samsung and Xiaomi already showed off their demo devices, while LG, HTC, OPPO, and many other manufacturers are planning to release foldable smartphones in 2019. Each manufacturer has its own, unique approach to foldable smartphones, so chances are we will see plenty of interesting design throughout the year.
