What was once $1500 a year ago is now almost $400 cheaper to make room for the 2019 model coming next month. The upcoming Whiskey Lake-U refresh will be a relatively minor internal update over last year's model which makes this deal particularly attractive.
The deal on Amazon just went back up to $1300. Fortunately, Rakuten has the same model on sale for $1220 as of this writing.
With the MateBook X Pro Whiskey Lake-U launch imminent, now's the time to buy the last generation MateBook X Pro Kaby Lake-R. Amazon is currently listing the 2018 MateBook X Pro for just $1140 or hundreds of dollars less than the usual $1400 to $1500 retail price.
This deal is particularly notable because it is the highest-end SKU of the 2018 MateBook X Pro. It has all the bells and whistles of a flagship Ultrabook including a 512 GB SSD, 3K resolution touchscreen, and a dedicated GeForce MX150 GPU for a surprisingly decent level of gaming performance considering the small chassis size.
Enthusiasts may want to keep in mind that the Thunderbolt 3 port here is half-speed (20 Gbps) and that the GeForce MX150 GPU is the slower '1D12' variant. CPU performance is slower than expected as well because of its limited Turbo Boost potential. For most home and office users, however, these drawbacks won't detract from what is otherwise an excellent Ultrabook.
The upcoming 2019 Whiskey Lake-U model utilizes the same chassis as the 2018 model but with a marginally faster Core i7-8565U CPU, faster GeForce MX250 GPU, and full-speed Thunderbolt 3 port (40 Gbps). Such a configuration is expected to launch for as high as $1800 USD or 1600 Euros in April.
