Xiaomi has announced a new wireless charging standard that's the fastest to date. The standard, which Xiaomi is calling Mi Charge Turbo, will be able to push up to 30 watts to compatible devices — which, so far, means only the upcoming Mi 9 Pro 5G. Xiaomi says its upcoming wireless charging stand can charge the Mi 9 Pro 5G's 4,000 milliamp-hour battery from zero to 50 percent in under a half hour.
The original, non-Pro Mi 9 is capable of 20-watt wireless charging, which was already industry-leading. Xiaomi's 30-watt charging stand will be actively cooled, with fans that "blow directly to the phone" (Xiaomi probably means on or at, rather than to). The Pro is also capable of 10-watt reverse wireless charging, which is considerably faster than current phones that offer similar functionality. We don't yet have a release date for the 9 Pro; the standard Mi 9 launched early this year.
And while the company didn't have much to say about it, testing has already begun on 40-watt wireless charging. It's not clear how far along that process is, though — no compatible current or future devices were mentioned and no timeline has been given.
